Free Management Assessment

Six questions.
A clearer starting point.

For each statement, choose how often it is true. This free management assessment is inspired by the themes of the book; it is not a validated diagnostic or the full book's Founder Dependency Index.

Private by design

Answers are scored in your browser only. No account, email, tracking service or server submission is required.

0 = Rarely, 1 = Sometimes, 2 = Consistently. Answer all six.

1. Every important outcome has a clearly named owner.
2. Managers know which decisions they can make without the founder.
3. Project margins and cost-to-complete figures are reviewed together.
4. The team understands upcoming cash needs and capacity constraints.
5. Essential processes can continue when one person is unavailable.
6. Weekly meetings produce decisions, owners and specific next actions.
A 90-day experiment

Move from intent to practice.

Use these three phases as a starting exercise alongside the full book. The goal is not to stop leading; it is to build a company that can keep moving without constant intervention.

Days 01—30

See the dependencies.

Track interruptions, routine approvals, incomplete handoffs and surprising costs. Name the top three founder bottlenecks.

  • Record every preventable escalation.
  • Choose one outcome for clear ownership.
  • Review basic cash and capacity together.
Days 31—60

Share the authority.

Define decision limits, transfer responsibility, document critical steps and coach through real decisions.

  • Publish a simple decision matrix.
  • Test backup ownership on one workflow.
  • Review results without blame.
Days 61—90

Test what lasts.

Run the operating rhythm, measure progress and conduct a short founder-absence test with clear escalation routes.

  • Check handoffs and exception handling.
  • Revisit cash and job-cost visibility.
  • Revise limits based on evidence.
